ENVIRONMENT

It is the cultural core of the capital. Care for heritage and history, mixed with bohemian and intellectual life, allows this neighborhood to be a protagonist of the city of Santiago. Located in the heart of the capital, on one side of Santa Lucía hill, the Lastarria neighborhood is called Zona Typical since 1997 and convenes its visitors with antique fairs, cafes, bars, museums, cultural centers, art galleries, cinemas and theaters, design stores, small shops and more. If we go over a bit of history, as many neighborhoods in Santiago, it was formed from a church, being in this case the church of Veracruz. Its construction began in 1852 with the idea of preserving the place where Pedro de Valdivia had lived. Then, large mansions and squares were built around it, as at the end of the 19th century the Plaza Mulato de Gil de Castro.

It was between 1872 and 1910 the creation of the Forest Park, the remodeling of the Santa Lucía hill, for the Centennial of the country the construction of the National Palace of Fine Arts and the arrival in the neighborhood of prominent figures of Chilean history such as the president between the years 1938 and 1941, Pedro Aguirre Cerda and the liberal writer and thinker don José Victorino Lastarria.

The sector was during the first half of the 20th century the site of important architectural works carried out by the most outstanding of the country, among them Duhart, Bolton, Larraín Bravo, Prieto Casanova, Ernesto Ried, Luciano Kulczewski, among others.
